Molbio Diagnostics Limited
Sector: Molecular Diagnostics / Point-of-Care (POC) Medical Devices & Consumables
1. Executive Overview
Molbio Diagnostics Limited is an innovative point-of-care ("POC") molecular diagnostics company focused on expanding access to accurate, rapid and cost-effective healthcare technologies for diagnosing infectious and non-communicable diseases. The Company's core innovation is its 'Truenat' platform — a novel, battery-operated POC polymerase chain reaction ("PCR") platform capable of operating in resource-limited settings and delivering decentralised diagnosis within an hour. As of March 31, 2026, Truenat was patented in more than 100 countries and offered molecular testing for 30 diseases — including tuberculosis ("TB"), COVID, Hepatitis B and C, HIV and HPV — across 43 assays.
The Company operates a razor-and-blade model: it sells the Truenat instrument platform (razor) which works exclusively with proprietary, single-use Truenat test kits (blades) that generate high-margin recurring revenue. The business is anchored by strong in-house R&D executed through its wholly-owned subsidiary Bigtec Private Limited (Bengaluru), whose platform underwent 13 years of R&D to obtain ICMR certification. Molbio's Truenat TB test chip is the only one developed by an Indian company and one of only two rapid molecular tests globally endorsed by the World Health Organization ("WHO") for initial diagnosis of TB and rifampicin resistance detection.
Molbio has a strong global footprint, having sold over 12,500 devices across more than 90 countries through March 31, 2026. It has expanded beyond molecular diagnostics into digital radiology (via subsidiary Prognosys, brand "ProRad") and digital pathology (via subsidiary OptraScan. The Company operates in an oligopolistic market with high entry barriers.
2. Business Model and Revenue Streams
Revenue Architecture — "Razor-and-Blade"
Molbio's revenue is driven by two interlinked product categories, with the consumable test kits forming the recurring-revenue engine:
- Devices (razor): The Truenat platform comprises the Trueprep universal nucleic acid extraction device (automated sample preparation) and the Truelab real-time PCR analyzer, available in three variants — UnoDx, Duo and Quattro — running one, two and four tests simultaneously.
- Test kits (blade): Disease-specific, ready-to-use, room-temperature-stable, single-use consumables pre-loaded with reagents. These lock in recurring revenue since they work exclusively with Truenat instruments.
Combined device and test-kit revenue was ₹1,238.10 Crore (FY2026), ₹933.92 Crore (FY2025) and ₹737.23 Crore (FY2024).

Customer & Channel Concentration
The Company's revenue is heavily concentrated in government and public-health channels, which represents both scale advantage and concentration risk:
| Metric | FY2026 | FY2025 | FY2024 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Revenue from Operations (₹ Crore) | 1,445.69 | 1,020.42 | 836.56 |

| Top 1 customer (% of finished-goods rev.) | 56.52% | 50.81% | 33.83% |
Revenue split by customer type (finished goods) for FY2026: Indian State/Central government’s 23.29% + 56.52%, international aid agencies 4.75%, and non-government agencies 15.44%.
Geographic Mix
| Geography (₹ Crore) | FY2026 | FY2025 | FY2024 |
|---|---|---|---|
| India | 1,306.64 | 823.28 | 754.31 |
| Outside India | 139.04 | 197.14 | 82.25 |
Pricing Advantage
Per the 1Lattice Report, the Truenat platform is cost-effective on a long-term basis in terms of both initial capital expenditure for installation and recurring cost per test, versus centralised PCR laboratory infrastructure.
